Senior Expert AI Engineer (m/f/d)

Between a good AI prototype and a reliable production system, there is a lot of engineering. That is exactly the gap you will close at x1F.

As a Senior Expert AI Engineer in our Corporate IT team, you will make sure that AI applications can be operated productively across our internal IT environment. You will build the technical foundation for our internal AI platform, integrate language models and enterprise data, and create the conditions for reliable operations.

This is not about writing individual scripts or building the business solutions yourself. Our AI Builders develop the use cases. You make sure they can become operable solutions and take the technical decisions needed to make that happen.

• AI Platform: Developing our internal AI platform and making it ready for productive applications is at the heart of this role. This includes architecture, monitoring, cost control, as well as an appropriate operating and access model.
• Production Systems: Containerized applications need to run reliably in production. You take responsibility for their orchestration and resilience.
• API Integration: Language models are integrated through production APIs, while enterprise data is connected through RAG.
• Cost & Quality: Keeping cost and quality in balance means setting up evaluation, tracing and guardrails as part of the production environment.
• Architecture: When technical and business requirements compete, you make the architecture decisions, make trade-offs transparent and stand behind the outcome.
• Data & Routing: Data ownership and model routing are part of your responsibility, as is considering resilience in the technical design.
• Agentic Systems: Tool calls, approvals, audit trails, idempotency and reliable restart mechanisms all need to work in practice. You make that possible for agentic systems in production.
• Software Engineering: Sound design, automation and testability are more important than simply writing individual scripts. Your engineering and scripting skills help turn that principle into practice.
• From Sandbox to Production: Our AI Builders need the right sandbox and toolchain to develop their solutions. You build these foundations and take initial internal use cases through to ongoing operations, creating the basis for a multi-tenant platform with the potential to serve customer-facing use cases in the future.

• Containers & Orchestration: strong experience with Kubernetes/AKS, Docker Compose and Azure Container Apps
• Infrastructure as Code: experience with Terraform, Bicep or Ansible
• Vector Databases: experience with vector databases and embedding pipelines
• Software Engineering: solid skills in Python, APIs, Git and automated testing
• Microsoft: experience with Azure, Entra ID and M365 is a plus
• Model Serving: experience with model serving or inference operations, e.g. vLLM, is a plus
• Enterprise AI: experience with enterprise AI platforms and their integration with enterprise data is a plus
• FSI Regulation: basic understanding of DORA, BAIT/VAIT and outsourcing requirements is a plus
• Production Experience: experience in platform engineering, DevOps or data engineering is a plus
• Languages: German B2, English B2-C1
• Willingness to Travel: occasional travel within the DACH region
